In Colossians 2:16-23, Paul reminds us that religious rules, spiritual experiences, and self-denial are just shadows. The real essence, the substance we need, is CHRIST ALONE. We can't earn God's approval through good works, mystical experiences, or harsh self-discipline. Our debt was too great to pay, but Jesus canceled it at the cross.
